Red Hot Poker Torch Lily is impressive perennial with sword-shaped leaves and tall stems topped with red, orange and yellow flowers in summer. It is a fabulous wildflower species that are native to the high grassy slopes of South Africa’s Drakensberg Mountains. The plant has unique flowers that have colors changing white to yellow then orange and finally red, and all colors can appear at once because 2 or 3 flowers can develop on a single bloom stalk.
Hot Torch Lily looks its best when grown in clumps, and displaying lots of blooms. The stately flowers provide a dramatic display, when grown in a space where the entire plant is visible. Make this planting space directly in front of an evergreen background, or as a 'stand alone' specimen, and it is sure to turn heads. Drought and heat tolerant Red Hot Poker plant is easy to grow. The plant is beautiful when planted with daylilies or echinops.
The plant attracts hummingbirds.
