Dwarf Papaya (Carica papaya ) - to 4- 5 feet, This papaya is a dwarf variety that bears large fruits at a young age ! .....The fruits develop low on the trunk and ripen in less than a year..zone 8-11..but makes a great houseplant... The large fruit turns bright yellow when ripe and has a delicious sweet flavor. Grows well in bright light and average room temperature...... A tropical evergreen plant from South America......Fast growing herbaceous plant with thick, hollow trunk. Leaves lobed. Flowers/fruit appear in nodes directly from trunk...... Flesh is yellow/orange with deliciously sweet melon-like flavor..... Papaya fruit is an excellent source of valuable health giving nutrients as well as generous amounts of digestive enzymes..... Fun Facts: The black seeds of the papaya are edible and have a sharp, spicy taste..... They are sometimes ground and used as a substitute for black pepper......papaya contains about 6% of the level of beta carotene found in carrots.....Mix diced papaya, cilantro, jalapeno peppers and ginger together to make a unique salsa that goes great with shrimp, scallops and halibut. Sprinkle papaya with fresh lime juice and enjoy as is....... Slice a small papaya lengthwise and fill with fruit salad......
